Pollution

Pollution of other people's property is a violation of individual rights. We support the development of an objective legal system defining property rights to include solar, wind, air and water.  We call for a modification of the laws governing such torts as trespass and nuisance to cover damages done by air, water, chemical, radiation, and noise pollution.

Toxic waste disposal problems have been created by government policies that separate liability from property. Rather than making taxpayers pay for toxic waste clean-ups, individual property owners, or in the case of corporations, the stockholders, responsible managers and employees should all be held strictly liable for material damage done by them. Claiming that one has abandoned a piece of property does not absolve one of the responsibilities for actions one has set in motion. Governmentally sponsored clean-ups are a sometimes-necessary subsidy of irresponsible companies at the expense of everyone else.  After all, when no assets are remaining, and an area is polluted, we can’t just let it remain there—someone has to pay for cleaning it up.

We call for requiring manufacturers to contribute to research and development of new technologies for cleaning up and preventing future toxic wastes.

We oppose any policies that encourage corporations to place local municipal landfills, toxic waste disposal sites, or incinerators in minority communities.

We call for legal action against any U.S. corporation that violates any U.S. environmental, health, and labor or safety laws in the operation of facilities overseas.

Power generating plants must be responsible and purchase anti-pollution equipment.  On power plants using fossil fuels (coal) their smoke stacks must be fitted with scrubbers to remove deadly pollutants.
